Hi,
I am aware that we have to live our EWSlives in beta-form. But maybe somebody can help me out here.
When I do my thing in Ed!son-beta -'normal' samples<512k and/or samples>512k and a Drumset- and I try to save it in the Setmanager afterwards. The Setmanager refuses to load this 'weird' Soundset (not even bigger than 10M)
so I have to re-enter it in Ed!son again. I give Midi-out a virtual Driver and open Cubase. Now Cubase is actually running but the garphics become slow and it for certain that 15 minutes later my system crashes.
I do not make my compositions in 15 min, so I ask you if you think that maybe Virtual Sampler 1.6 and/or Setite can keep the system running? Can somebody share their experience with these programms combined with the EWS64XL?
Thanks, goodbye

well, i suppose that you have a good and stabile machine.if yo don`t, than sorry.
on other side, if yo runnin cubase yo maybe noticed that this little virus rushes in graphics totaly insane, so your card must be approx 32 mbsram to run in a relatively good way. i think that edson is a very good and reliable prog. but some hicks are happens from time to time. so, dear college
just think what did you do with your machine
and try to take a real attitude, and that is:
our confidence in new technologies is too big for our mouths.as yo see, i`m a little
happy, but it is because my machine didn`t drop out about 25 days, and im happy for that
but, i also have an ews 64 s that works very fine, much better than xl, and my bassplayer have this new miracle 88 and i worked on it, its tremendous, but, for your problems, i rather go to isolated island, that combine xl with cubase.this comb. just saws my nerves. its slow and unnefficient.try any other software if you want to work faster
or spend another mountain of money to buy a new machine. also, my exp with xl`s middy is not very positive. yo see, for studio i have atari, yes an old one, and a few samplers/hardware/like akai`s,roland etc.
for real work comb of atari, pc, and samplers, modules and a good mic with an tube preamp is what you need if you were serious bout beeing sound technician in a studio. love, luke ;-)

Hi Boris,
thanks for your reply. I gave me another perspective on my crashproblems! It is very possible that the videocard I use -Intel 740 8Mb- is not sufficient to run such a heavy programm as Cubase! Come to think of it, it is always a total-freeze of the image that makes my system lock up. I will buy a videocard with more memory.
It is because I have heard a lot of the negative side of the EWS-card that I automatically blame it! But in fact the EWS and being able to make my music on a computer instead of taperecorders gives me at last the possibilities I need, - no noise, lots of channels, ability to rearrange my sounds, creating my own sounds...I also am a little happy.
See you

Menno, when Terratec released support for bigger sample size than 512 kb, it was only implemented inside ed!son. They said that support in setmaneger would be on the next application update (and they said that a long time ago) I have lots of soundbanks waiting to be played when the new set manager shows it's face. Also, remember that the asio driver it's beta, so it may fail using virtual midi ports. I haven't had any success using setite, but i don't know about it's sequencerfriend update. And i don't know about virtual sampler, but the upcoming realese drops native support for ews cards.
